How would your life and view of the world change if you knew people were good?
Some time ago, I read the book Humankind by Dutch historian Rutger Bregman. I’ve never read a book that hit so close to my heart. Not necessarily because of the heartwarming stories he tells in the book, but because I finally felt like I understood the thing about me that felt so different from the world around me: I believe that people are good.
I believe that you are good. I believe that there are aspects of society that incentivize greed, apathy, and destruction. But I do not believe that changes who we are at our core.
I also believe in being the change we wish to see in the world. And for me, I want to go a step further – I want to show you reasons why and methods how you can do the same.
Who is Cory?
This question has plagued me for the longest time. Some of you probably know me as the “Minecraft guy”. Others as the “Environment guy”. But I’m on a quest to shake off both of these identities in favor of a new identity – one as dynamic and hopeful as I am. I want to be Cory, the one who inspires others to be the version of themselves they wish to be, living in the world they wish to see.
Life philosophy aside, my current occupation is Senior Gameplay Designer at Mojang Studios, where I conceptualize, design, and code new features for Minecraft in both the Java and Bedrock engines.
In my free time (Haha, what’s that?), I enjoy running, learning, spending quality time with my friends, meeting new people and hearing their stories, and pushing myself to try new things and approach life in new ways.
Projects
Love Tropics
Love Tropics, which began in 2017, is an annual charity livestream event hosted on a Minecraft server. For 48 glorious and exhausting hours, me and my team and dozens of volunteers raise money and educate around different topics relating to the tropics, biodiversity, climate change, and supporting local communities.

Climate Replay
Climate Replay is a project I helped start in order to bridge the gap between the video game industry, video game community, and the climate crisis. There is a lot of work to be done in every industry, and Climate Replay’s goal is to help the community unite to push the industry to adopt climate-friendly practices and do their part to abate the crisis.
